END OF THE YEAR
The end of the year is upon us. We want to thank everybody for their hard work and dedication through our AzMerit Testing and the Galileo Post-Test. We are very proud of the students and their hard work during this time.
As the end of the year is approaching rapidly, please keep an eye out for announcements on the end of the year celebrations we will be having. This weekend, Saturday, May 2nd from 8:00 - 5:00 pm is the district softball tournament. The boys will be playing at Joe Henry Fields on 1st Street. There will also be a musical theater and dinner production of Aladdin. We will also be having our end of the year perfect attendance and honor roll awards celebration. Please keep an eye on the website and the papers that go home for more information about these and any other events.
21st Century Grant
Pueblo is excited to announce that we are in the process of applying for a 21st Century Grant. This is a very important grant made available through the Arizona Department of Education in cooperation with the US Department of Education. The purpose of this grant, as the US Department of Education states is to "support the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children, particularly students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools." (US Department of Education, March 2014). The goal of this program is to help develop non-school hour programs that will help students meet the core standards in academic subjects along with enrichment activities and youth development activities.
What does all this mean for Pueblo?
Our goal at Pueblo is to provide the best opportunities for our students and community both during and after school hours. Through programs such as First LEGO League, Musical Theater, Wood Working, and many other after school programs, we hope to build an after school environment that supports what the students are working on in the classroom and helps them develop these academic skills. Offering these programs are fantastic, but like most things there is a cost involved with these and other programs we are looking into. This grant will help us with the cost involved with operating these programs both to the school and the teachers who have taken their time to help the students.
If you have any questions, I encourage you to look at the Arizona Department of Education's website about this program.
